Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga has been elected to another term as president of Caritas Internationalis. It will be his second four-year term.

The elections at the confederation’s 19th General Assembly in Rome also saw the approval of Jürg Krummenacher as treasurer to Caritas Internationalis. He had served as interim treasurer for the previous year.

“I’d like to thank the confederation for their support and I look forward to the next four years of service to the poor,” said Cardinal Rodriguez.

Cardinal Rodriguez won with 75 percent of the votes.

Three hundred representatives from Caritas member organisations from around the world are in Rome from 22-27 May for the quadrennial General Assembly. Besides approving the election of a new president and treasurer, they will also approve the election of a new secretary general on Thursday.
