Floods in Pakistan in the summer of 2010 were the worst in 80 years. As one-fifth of the country lay underwater, 18 million people struggled to find food and water and to keep a roof over their heads.

One year on, communities are still rebuilding their lives. Caritas is with the people of Pakistan as they replant their fields, work on water infrastructure and roads and rebuild their homes. Here are some stories about how Caritas has been helping the people of Pakistan:

Planting seeds of recovery after Pakistan’s floods – Trócaire (Caritas Ireland) distributes cotton seeds and fertiliser to 83 families whose village was destroyed after the floods

Rebuilding life on Manchar Lake in Pakistan – Trócaire (Caritas Ireland) and the Pakistani Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), a nationwide organisation representing the needs of fishing communities, had piloted an emergency preparedness programme in the communities on Manchar Lake in Pakistan

Fresh water on tap after the floods – With funding from Caritas partners in Australia and Switzerland, Catholic Relief Services (a US member of Caritas) brought in pipes, cement and tools to restore a 9000 feet damage water pipe.
