Pope Francis’ new encyclical is an urgent call to debate the issue of human ecology and our relationship with the environment. It is called “Laudato Si’, On the Care of our Common Home”.

“We human beings are not only the beneficiaries but also the stewards of other creatures. Thanks to our bodies, God has joined us so closely to the world around us that we can feel the desertification of the soil almost as a physical ailment.” Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium

The poorest countries of the world are being hit disproportionately hard by the extreme weather brought by climate change.

Caritas organisations across the world work with communities who are suffering the impact of climatic and environmental damage.

Caritas works to raise awareness, help communities adapt to climate change, prevent and manage environmental disasters and how to raise their voice against injustices affecting their lives and their living environment.

Caritas takes the voices of those affected by climate change and environmental damage to international fora to make sure decision-makers hear them and act.

Caritas urges leaders to adopt a new climate change agreement that is just, especially for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people, and agree on strong actions to reduce emissions from now until 2020.

One Human Family, Caring for Creation is the vision that will guide the Caritas confederation’s work from 2015-2019. Caritas is guided by Pope Francis, St Francis and Biblical teaching to ensure that in the garden of the world there’s a place for everyone to flourish.
