Caritas Internationalis is sending its warmest wishes to its president Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga as he marks his 30th anniversary as a bishop.

Cardinal Rodriguez was ordained a bishop on 8 December 1978 in Tegucigalpa by Gabriel Montalvo, titular Archbishop of Celene, Nuncio in Honduras.

He was elected President of Caritas Internationalis in June 2007.

Caritas Internationalis Secretary General Lesley-Anne Knight said, “On the 30th Anniversary of his episcopal ordination, Caritas pays tribute to Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez.

“Over the last three decades, he has shown a real commitment to social justice and working in solidarity with the poor that continues to this day. In Honduras, in Latina America, and globally as Caritas Internationalis President , Cardinal Oscar has been a tireless crusader in improving the lives of the poor and the most vulnerable.

“We thank him for his leadership and send him our warmest wishes on this special day.”
