I think the situation we’re living today is very similar to Calvary and the way of cross of Jesus, and now the Haitian people are exactly like Jesus who was abandoned, was alone and who is suffering.
So we are sure that after Good Friday, the hope of the people is to see the light of the resurrection of Jesus. Also, as Job in the Old Testament said, we are sure that our deliverer is alive and then we will one day see him face to face. We are also sure that our people will go out from this situation, to put our energy together, to put our vision together , to try and live with faith, to have hope and to will try and rebuild our country. I’m sure if we do that, we’ll put our own interests aside and we’ll find a way to rebuild our country.
We would be very pleased if Caritas Internationalis (Caritas Haiti is a member of Caritas Internationalis) could give this message to all the members – how to participate in the rebirth of our country, in the reconstruction of our country. This is the main concern now – in order to help Haiti not do the same as before, but to do better and see again the symbol of common living together and to leave in the past all prejudices and discrimination and to try and go to the essential and to be open, more fraternal and more human and to try and rebuild the country without a lot of poverty and slums, but to try and reunite the country and to stand together and to rebuild the nation. We hope that our members will continue to do that, each one according to his specific goals and interests but will put them together with the interests of Haiti.
The message is Haiti will not die, Haiti will stand up again. This is now the time of suffering, but after the suffering we are sure we’ll see the light and we’ll have an experience of the Resurrection, not only the historical Resurrection, but also the Resurrection after this life. So I’m sure the faith of the Haitian people, their belief in God and also the way we have hope, we’re sure the living God will open the way for us to rebuild the country.
