When the guns started firing again in Juba on the 7th July it brought to an end the fragile ceasefire and forced the displacement of 34,000 people from around Juba. Many sought refuge in established UN camps or church compounds.
Caritas is launching an emergency appeal to help people who’ve been hit by floods in Assam and Bihar in India. Millions of people have been displaced and over 150 have lost their lives as a result of the floods.
Caritas responds to the needs clearly expressed by the beneficiaries themselves. In the tent at the Mahama Refugee Camp, a “family reunion” is underway to exchange ideas on the project, their satisfaction, their needs, questions and ideas.
The water levels are going down now after the floods which hit our country last week but the challenges faced by communities are still very large. There are many places where people have suffered landslides in our diocese or have been evacuated due to landslide threats.
