URBI ET ORBI MESSAGE OF POPE FRANCIS
Easter Sunday, 31 March 2013
So this is the invitation which I address to everyone: Let us accept the grace of Christ’s Resurrection! Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of his love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all Creation and make justice and peace flourish.
Peace to the whole world, torn apart by violence linked to drug trafficking and by the iniquitous exploitation of natural resources! Peace to this our Earth! May the risen Jesus bring comfort to the victims of natural disasters and make us responsible guardians of Creation.

It is essential for life but one in nine people around the world don’t have access to clean water. Secours Catholique (Caritas France) has developed a “wikiwater”, an interactive guide which offers ideas to improve access to water and sanitation for fragile communities.
The wikiwater was created by Secours Catholique’s Patrick Flicoteaux who worked with volunteers and experts over the course of three years. It gives simple and practical information and tips on such activities as how to build a well and how to purify water, among many other suggestions. To visit the wikiwater click here. In the meantime, here are some things you may not know about water:
More than 4 million people still die each year worldwide due to unsafe water and 885 million do not have access to drinking water. Learn more about analysing the quality of water.
“Of the world’s seven billion people, six billion have mobile phones. However, only 4.5 […]

Read an account in America Magazine Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga says that young people have a central role in eradicating poverty through voluntary and community action. The Caritas Internationalis President is speaking at an event at the United Nations on 24 September on how young people can be given the tools to transform society for the common good. Cardinal Rodriguez says, “Caritas is reliant on young people as volunteers after natural disasters, in our advocacy campaigns and in providing social services to the poor. We look with hope and confidence to young people to seek the truth, to stand up for justice and to discover new ways of doing things. In return, they look to us for support and a sense of purpose. And too often, we are letting them down.” The Cardinal urges the international community to support the family and educational institutes, to provide employment opportunities for the […]
