Caritas Internationalis is a global confederation
of 165 Catholic organisations responding to
humanitarian disasters and promoting integral
human development.
Inspired by Christian faith and gospel values, it
works in most of the world’s countries with the
poor, vulnerable and excluded, regardless of
race or religion.
Caritas members range from small groups of
volunteers to some of the world’s largest
humanitarian and development organisations.
Together they have over a million staff and
volunteers.
Caritas Internationalis has a General Secretariat
in Rome, which coordinates the confederation’s
response to major humanitarian emergencies,
supports members and advocates on their
behalf for a better world, based on justice and
compassion.
The General Secretariat also has senior staff in
New York and Geneva representing the Caritas
confederation at the United Nations. They work
with other international institutions and in close
association with the Holy See missions.
