![]() Caritas Photo of the Year: Fleeing from war in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. Our Caritas President, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, speaks about how the lives of ordinary people caught in extraordinary times. Whatever the outcome of the climate change conference in Copenhagen in December, several of the world’s poorest countries will be struggling with the effects of climate related natural disasters for many years to come. We look at Christmas for one family on the island nation of Kiribati in the South Pacific. We hear about how their lives are being changed as sea levels rise and the government prepares a nationwide evacuation plan. By way of giving thanks for this year, please find a series of prayers celebrating the faith and values which unite as well as the role of Caritas in emergencies, pandemics, migration, economic justice, climate justice, and peace building. Caritas also celebrates the year through photographs with a gallery of the best images from our staff, volunteers, and consultants. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
