Caritas of Mother of God Archdiocese in Moscow

Caritas of Mother of God Archdiocese in Moscow, formerly known as Caritas Russia, has been working on behalf of the Catholic Church in Russia since 1991 to provide assistance for poor people and for victims of disasters, accidents and armed conflict in Russia or in countries of the former Soviet Union.

The agency’s wide-range of programmes renders social and medical support and rehabilitation assistance for young people in need, the homeless, the addicted and the unemployed.

In addition, Caritas in Russia ongoing programmes and campaigns includes:

  • Reintegration services- Social services to support inmates and released prisoners in Moscow and Kaliningrad regions.
  • Home Care – Provides comprehensive in-home personal support and services to the elderly, the sick and the disabled.
  • Services for young people – provides shelters, camps.
  • Homeless services – programmes that provide the basic essentials such as clothes, food and medicines for the needy.

The National Office of Caritas relocated from St. Petersburg to Moscow in early 2013. At the national level, the agency employs a Director, chief accountant, accountant, office manager, national coordinator, project leaders and volunteers to carry its mission and support the tasks of the 4 Diocesan Caritas in Moscow, Saratov, Novosibirsk and East Siberia.

Caritas of Mother of God Archdiocese in Moscow is a full-fledged member of the international confederations Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Europa. In addition, the agency engages in partnerships with NGOs, state organisations such as Ministry of Social Defense, Federal Migration Service, Institute of Economy (Moscow), and the Department on Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Caritas Saratov is preparing a relief programme to help those most in need. With support from Caritas Germany, Secours Catholique (Caritas France), Caritas Spain and Caritas Luxembourg, they plan to provide food, bedding, hygiene articles and more.
