Caritas in Latin America & Caribbean
The Caritas Latin America and Caribbean region covers a vast geographical area with great cultural and economic diversity. In many of the countries in the region, Caritas has a long history of working for the poor – over fifty years – tackling natural and man-made disasters and providing healthcare.
Working together, the members of the Caritas Latin America and Caribbean region focus on peace, social and economic justice and safe migration.

CARITAS UPDATES FROM LATIN AMERICA & CARIBBEAN
The leaders of Catholic agencies from around the world will be in Rome from 12 – 17 May for the 20th Caritas Internationalis General Assembly, titled “One Human Family, Caring for Creation”.
Electronic purses containing 600 pesos per month were delivered to each of the 725 families affected by hurricane Odile, so that they could decide what they needed most and directly buy goods from the supermarket, with the only restriction that the purse may not be used to buy tobacco or alcoholic beverages.
The worst ruins in 80 years have hit desert areas in northern Chile causing widespread destruction.
