Caritas Japan, founded in 1970, works to create a society that respects human dignity, providing overseas and domestic humanitarian aid, disaster relief, development and social services in cooperation with the Caritas Member Organisations, the Catholic church and with international and national organisations.

Caritas Japan supports around 100 overseas and domestic programmes and projects annually, worth US$ 3 million, which include the education programme for indigenous children in Chittagong Hill Tracts area in Bangladesh, animation projects in northeast India, mother and child’s health programme in Iraq and sustainable agriculture programme in Uganda etc. It has also covered the emergency and rehabilitation activities for the disasters like tsunami 2004, Pakistan earthquake 2005 and Yogyakarta earthquake 2006.

Caritas Japan works in areas covering: education, health, livelihood, HIV/AIDS and empowerment of the marginalised people.
