Caritas Argentina works through 64 diocesan organizations to deliver a range of charitable services in support of the poor and marginalised, many of whom suffered in the 2001 economic crisis in Argentina. Its main areas of work are education, health, employment, housing, citizenship, land rights, emergency assistance and communication.

The organization seeks to promote (i) community spirit, so that everyone takes on their responsibilities with regard to justice and charity, (ii) the efforts of the poorest as agents of their own personal, family and community development and (iii) training for people who take up the commitment of charitable service.
Programmes
Caritas Argentina is involved in projects in:
- Education – providing training for Caritas workers, promoting social inclusion and awareness of poverty to enhance family and community cohesion;
- Employment – training workshops to help people find employment and set up productive enterprises;
- Citizenship – contributing to the reconstruction of the social fabric of Argentina, helping people and communities that may be poor, neglected, abandoned or marginalised;
- Housing – working with the Government on a programme in which families and communities work together to build their own homes, restoring self-esteem and hope for a better future for their children;
- Land rights – helping poor families and communities who seek to assert their rights and formalise possession of their lands;
- Emergency assistance – immediate assistance such as food, healthcare and clothing, prevention and long-term rehabilitation;
- Health – initiatives on diet, the environment, knowledge of traditional remedies and disease prevention;
- Communication – working with marginalised people to ensure that they have a voice that is heard.
