Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the official international humanitarian agency of the United States Catholic community and a member of Caritas Internationalis, supports humanitarian and development operations all over the world. Much of its work has the long-term goal of capacity-building to enable beneficiaries to become self-sufficient and take control of their lives.
Themes
CRS runs and supports projects and programmes in the following fields:
Agriculture – support for poor farmers, the landless and disaster victims;
Microfinance – loans and savings, participatory management, self-sufficiency and sustainability;
Education – helping marginalised people and needy communities to access quality education;
Peace building – addressing injustice, rights education, rebuilding, reconciliation;
Emergency response – help for refugees, disaster preparedness, immediate assistance;
Social safety nets – training in livelihood skills, helping the sick, homeless and people with physical and learning difficulties;
Health – training, improving water and sanitation facilities, health centres;
Food security – agricultural, health and literacy training, improved access to food;
HIV and AIDS – helping families to cope with physical, economic and emotional aspects.
