Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand delivers aid, fosters development, and promotes justice both in New Zealand and abroad by (i) funding community development projects in poor communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific, (ii) funding emergency relief work in the wake of major disasters, (iii) advocating for changes to the circumstances that cause poverty in New Zealand and abroad, (iv) sharing news about current aid, development and justice issues and (v) educating people about the underlying causes of poverty


Budget       

In 2007, Caritas Aotearoa spent NZ$4.3 million, of which  87 percent  was devoted to programmes and advocacy.

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand works through a number of development partners and supports a range of international projects. These include sustainable agriculture programmes in Nepal, land use and entitlement in Tanzania, and HIV/AIDS awareness and health programmes in Papua New Guinea . In partnership with Caritas International, Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is currently responding to humanitarian emergencies in Darfur and Burma (Myanmar).

In New Zealand, Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand has encouraged the government to devote greater resources to address poverty and continues to advocate on domestic issues, including criminal justice, rights of the indigenous Maori, and children’s rights.
