Caritas Latin America and Caribbean discuss hunger

The Department of Justice and Solidarity of Celam and Caritas organisations from 23 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean will gather in the town of Guarne, Antioquia, Colombia for the XVIII Latin American and Caribbean Caritas Congress from 20 to 24 October.

The main objective of this conference will be to identify areas of work of Caritas and the definition of objectives and goals for strengthening the strategic plan in the next four years.

The central theme of this conference is the right to food as a condition for Integral Human Development. Through panels, conferences and workshops, Caritas delegates will seek to analyze how the political, economic and socio-cultural impact on food security and poverty generation in the region.

The meeting will share experiences on generating social change that animates the Catholic Church in Latin America and the Caribbean and builds lines of action for families and communities in the region.

With justice and solidarity, we all fit at the table

Inspired by Jesus Christ sharing at the table and as part of the global Caritas campaign for reducing hunger, “One Human Family, Food for All”; representatives will seek ways so all can be included at the table, working together for the common good and the defense of human dignity The  motto of the meeting is “With justice and solidarity, we all fit at the table”.

The meeting will include participation from Mons. Segundo Tejado Muñoz of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum; Mons. José Luis Azuaje, President of Caritas Latin America and Caribbean; Michel Roy, General Secretary of Caritas Internationalis and Fr. Peter Hughes, Executive Secretary of the Department of Justice and Solidarity Celam.

Bishops of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral of Latin America and the Caribbean will also take part, as well as experts in human development, food security, public participation, migration, human rights and peace from Latin American and Caribbean Caritas organisations. Others from Church organisations in France, Germany, United States and Norway who support the work of Caritas in Latin America and the Caribbean will paticipate.
