WATCH THE WEBINAR

Regional Conferences Caritas Latin America and Caribbean

Caritas committed to fighting against poverty and for the defence of the Common Home

A webinar on the role of Caritas in the Region, characterised by a strong spirituality, and by the union and fraternal cooperation among the different member organisations of the Confederation.

In Venezuela Caritas is one of the very few organizations able to help people in desperate need, according to the Regional Conference of Cáritas Latin America and the Caribbean, working forto eradicating poverty in all its forms, to end structural injustice and to move towards a different future in the region.

Today faith communities in Latin America and the Caribbean are advocating for sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in a path to achieve SDGs, in an inclusive and effective journey for the recovery from pandemic and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the region.

Venezuela’s once prosperous economy has been in free-fall since more than eight years ago. According to Caritas Venezuela, one out of three Venezuelans are in a food insecurity condition (9.3 million) and 96% of people live in poverty, with less than 3 dollars per day.

Child malnutrition in Venezuela rose to 26% from December 2019 to March 2020, and families cannot find enough food or medicine.

Caritas supports the most disadvantaged people with many programs. Caritas rescued more than 12 thousand children with acute malnutrition from dying, recovering children from their extreme thinness.

Today, Caritas is trying to anticipate the malnutrition outbreak. Caritas delivers approximately twenty tons of food to dioceses throughout the country for facing a food crisis. This initiative is part of the campaign “Gesture of Solidarity”. It aims to provide food aid to families in a situation of nutritional vulnerability. Each support kit includes six foodstuffs that weigh about twenty kilograms.

In addition to that, Caritas is also taking care of pregnant mothers at risk of malnutrition, improving their nutritional levels and giving them vitamin supplements and food until the pregnancy ends.

Finally, a medicine bank will be set up through the Diocesan and Parish Caritas for the good of those who otherwise cannot access the cure of your health problems.
Programs need your support.
