Conflict in Gaza. Choosing Life Amidst Chaos

"I urge believers to take just one side in this conflict: that of peace."
The Holy Land faces a protracted political crisis, grappling with over five decades of Israeli military occupation, a 15-year Gaza blockade, internal Palestinian divisions, and recurrent escalations of hostilities between Israeli security forces and Palestinian armed groups.
The Holy Land has witnessed a humanitarian crisis of alarming proportions, particularly since the October 7 attack on Israel, which triggered devastating air strikes on Gaza. As the situation continues to escalate, Caritas remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the urgent needs of the affected communities.
We pray for our staff in Gaza, many of whom are displaced, mourn the loss of loved ones and fear for their lives. We are indebted to their humanity at a time when their worlds are falling apart. They are supporting the most vulnerable within their community even as they and their families face immense hardships.
• Make the temporary ceasefire permanent, urgently de-escalate the hostilities and pursue a path to durable peace for all people in the Holy Land to live harmoniously together;
• Urgently grant unimpeded safe humanitarian access to and across all of Gaza, and allow large scale aid operations, including through the reopening of the Karem Abu Salem crossing. Reinstate reliable basic services, including water, electricity, communications, and humanitarian and commercial deliveries of food, basic household items and fuel;
• Protect civilians, distinguishing between civilians and combatants in accordance with the Geneva Conventions;
• Respect International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law
• Immediately and unconditionally release civilians held hostage and all those arbitrarily detained, and ensure that all hostages and those detained are treated with the respect due to their inherent dignity.
