Around 20 typhoons hit the Philippines per year, but some recent storms have been particularly devastating.

Typhoon Rai, known locally as Odette, hit the Philippines on 16 December and was described as one of the world’s strongest storms of 2021.
Caritas Philippines works with communities before typhoons hit through emergency preparedness programmes which create early warning systems and ensure communities are coordinated and react quickly to potential disasters.

When the typhoons hit, Caritas teams on the ground have been providing people with food baskets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, kitchen materials, sleeping kits, and water.

In the long-term Caritas will construct permanent shelters, offer livelihood support and capacity building activities.

It is also possible to make donations through a bank transfer.
