“Helping is my job. It’s part of my oath as a firefighter and I always uphold that oath. That’s why I’m here”. (Paweł Szuzdak)

Paweł Szuzdak is a firefighter through and through. He works professionally in the fire department and helps out at the local volunteer fire department after work and on his days off. When the war broke out in Ukraine, the local mayor (city unnamed) sent volunteers to the Caritas logistics center.

Here, several tons of aid are loaded daily onto trucks bound for Lviv. Paweł moves pallets all day. He unloads and loads – water, medicine, food, everything that is needed in Ukraine. For him, it’s a sure thing to do. Everyone has to help in some way, Paweł says. “Helping is my job. It’s part of my oath as a firefighter, and I always keep that oath. That’s why I’m here.” He works about 10 hours a day. Since day one.
