Caritas Internationalis Highlights Faith and Local Perspectives at Bonn Conference

Caritas Internationalis is participating in the Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB58), taking place from June 5 -15. Caritas expects the conference to build upon the outcomes of COP27 and guide and support Parties in completing the technical work necessary to achieve robust outcomes at COP28 in December.

SB58 will continue discussions on various important issues such as: the global stocktake, the global goal on adaptation, the just transition to sustainable societies, joint work on agriculture, and mitigation work on loss and damage.

During the conference, Caritas will focus on key thematic clusters including the Loss and Damage Fund, global stocktake, climate finance, adaptation, and joint work on climate action implementation in agriculture and food security.

On June 8, Caritas Internationalis and the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) will organise a side event titled Perspectives of Faith and Local Actors on the New Joint Work on Agriculture and Food Systems. The event will feature experiences from local communities associated with Caritas organisations in Africa and Asia and aims to facilitate dialogue among governments, international organisations and faith groups regarding the future of food and agriculture within the UNFCCC process.

The event will include speakers from the African Group of Negotiators, the European Union, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Catholic Development and Food Group. Graham Gordon, Head of Policy at CAFOD, will moderate the event.

Those interested can watch the live streaming of the event on the UNFCCC website or the UN Climate Change Events YouTube channel.
