An advent of compassion

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

As the end of the year approaches some of you may start to look back on what has happened during 2015. In some parts of the world, you may come to the end of the year with a certain fatigue as the nights get darker and colder and you may decide to stay at home more in the evenings rather than going out in the cold.

Everyone is invited to undertake corporal and spiritual works of mercy during the jubilee year. Corporal works of mercy include feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and giving shelter to the homeless.

Pope Francis opens the Holy Door of Charity at Caritas Rome’s hostel on 18th December. This is an invitation to us all to open our doors, both physically and spiritually, and to partake in the “wellspring of joy, serenity and peace” which gives us an opportunity for grace and spiritual renewal.
