Several fires have broken out in Rohingya camps and has left several refugees without shelter even within settlement camps. The latest fire that broke out on 5 March left an estimated 16,000 Rohingyas from over 3,000 households without a home. In addition to the loss of homes, health centres and learning facilities were also destroyed due to fire incidents within these camps.
Caritas Bangladesh is urgently requesting funding to maintain its provision of essential life-saving services in communities that have come to rely on Caritas, to improve services in response by increasing activities in livelihoods, skills development and education for children and youth.
Over the last five years, Caritas Bangladesh, together with its partners, has reached nearly 1.4 million individuals and provided education services, food and non-food items, wash services and have constructed shelters and settlements for refugees in the country.
However, the United Nations recently announced a 17 per cent cut in food rations for Rohingya refugees due to falling international donations. Caritas therefore hopes to obtain funds to meet the basic and immediate needs of Rohingya refugees including strong and durable shelter and settlement, clean water, sanitation, hygiene and food.
Please visit https://www.caritas.org/donations/emergency-appeal-rohingya/ to donate and support the needs of the Rohingya refugees and the host community in Cox’s Bazar district and Bhasan Char island in Bangladesh. (Please write “Rohingya Refugees” in the payment details).
