CARITAS TO ‘PLANT A TREE’ AS A SIGN OF UNITY TO MARK ONE YEAR SINCE LAUNCH OF GLOBAL ‘TOGETHER WE’ CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE INTEGRAL ECOLOGY

From 13-19 October 2022, Caritas Internationalis will celebrate its Global Awareness Week to mark nearly year since the launch of its 3-year global Together We campaign on 13 December in 2021. Inspired by Pope Francis’ invitation to foster ‘integral ecology’ in our world, this campaign aims to bring people together to carry out new actions and initiatives, especially at the grassroots level, to combat poverty, restore dignity to the excluded, and protect naturetogether as Communities of Care.

Within the first year of the Together We campaign, several Communities of Care are beginning to put down roots in over 60 countries, building awareness of the teachings of Pope Francis in the encyclicals Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti as well as the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on local communities.

Caritas groups worldwide will celebrate their commitment to taking care and protect our Common Home and the poor, during Global Awareness Week (13-19 October). During this week, they will also start planting a tree within their communities as a common gesture to serve as a sign of global unity and the Confederation’s commitment to journey towards an ‘ecological conversion’ in order to promote true peace and justice in our world.

At the culmination of the Global Awareness Week, Caritas Internationalis will host a webinar marathon from 11 am to 5.30 pm Rome time on Wednesday, October 19 to highlight 15 projects worldwide from all 7 regional offices of the Confederation: Caritas Africa, Caritas Asia, Caritas Europa, Caritas MONA, Caritas Latin America & Caribbean, and Caritas North America.

You can participate in our webinar here to hear from Caritas representatives on the work being undertaken in their regions. By viewing our Together We World Map you can learn more about initiatives Caritas is undertaking to care for the poor and our Common Home. By creating spaces for listening and dialogue to address all forms of inequities, Caritas is mobilising Communities of Care to take action now to create a better tomorrow for the common good of all people.
